tell us a | |
tale | I HAVE COME FOR YOUR SOFT INNARDS LITTLE CHILD |

up with | |
fun! | After this weekend, my badly designed robot is now |
able to terrorize the house. It no longer breaks
when bumping into things, and it even has a
proximity detector so it runs into things even less.
Now, the problem is more mundane; one motor for each
of the back wheels leaves no control for steering,
which leads to navigational problems down the road.
If I have them go in opposite directions, any
attachments on the front just sort of scrape along.
I am a dork! Now for some links.

mind green | |
I was joking about it earlier this week, but
somebody has created a robotic automated plant
watering system. Also, his other bots are powered
by a combination of sped-up clocks, watches, and
solar power.

the best of | |
the best | The NASA Space Telerobotics Program has a neat |
listing of intruiging robots.
Don't miss the rats trained to control robot arms
with their minds.

combat | |
fatigue | Battlebots has some interesting Real clips of all- |
out battles between weight-regulated metal robots.
Recommended: turn off sound so that you don't have
to listen to the announcer aping professional
wrestling commentary.

Why you should always keep a low profile.

Incredible metal-piercing scorpion design versus
silly spastic box.

Mechadon: Chromed-out 400 pound insectoid!

Good example of the general uselessness of Real for
fast-moving media.

getting | |
closer | Robo Gladiators is a LEGO-sponsored event which does |
the same thing as Battle Bots, except requires that
the bots be composed entirely of LEGO bricks. Also,
the site details a very interesting voltage hack
using only LEGO bricks!

you're it | |
Matt has Robotag, which is a slightly less violent
version of the robot fighting games; just bump your
opponent before they bump you! Real video included
here as well, but it didn't work for me.

methods of | Not Quite C is a more familiar interface to the |
control | RCX's command language. The lack of certain editing |
functions (like copy and paste) are missing from the
admittedly easy-to-use default Mindstorm IDE.

RCX Command Center is a Windows frontend to NQC, and
is very handy. Plus, it's got some fun toys; you
tell it how your motoring system works and it lets
you remotely control your bot. I hooked up the ol'
joystick and gave it a go; way too much fun! Now to
get it to react to joystick buttons...

The RCXCC site also has very nice tips, including
some help with bumper assemblies. [Always having
trouble with mine.]

Bot-Kit uses Dolphin Smalltalk to produce RCX code.
Ehh... yes.

PerlRCX utilizes Perl to talk directly to the
control brick through the serial port IR.

RCXTools includes a Perl disassembler that can pick
apart the opcodes.

Michael Gasperi has a page on Sensor Input including
ripping that weird light sensor apart. Mr. Sensor:

Huge blast of nostalgia.

THE MONORAIL!!! Those were the days. Man, I'm a

eh? | This is the log of a faceless entity. Me. I wander |
around the web, and point out what are most likely
completely useless things for you to visit. It's
where I have been, what I learned there, and what I
plan to figure out in the future. All in the palm
of your hand.

the daily | Technically speaking, this is a "weblog". There are |
surfing | many weblogs. You can probably find one that suits |
tools | your tastes pretty closely in the morass below, but |
if not, use the pitas system to track yourself.
